This week the team at Emmerson Critchley Ltd has been working on a number of projects including this one, which is the application of fibre lime to a modern extension. While some finishes and renders can be impermeable meaning that moisture can become trapped, which ultimately leads to all sorts of problems, fibre lime is breathable and does not trap water and also copes brilliantly with the elements – come rain, frost or shine. The result is hardy, resilient and stands the test of time.
Fibre lime is also a cheaper option than chalk hair lime because the application process takes less time. The finish also cracks much less meaning that aftercare and on-going maintenance is less onerous too.
Achieving best results and getting the application of fibre lime absolutely right is a fine art and something of a science that relies on technical expertise and experience of the lime carbonation process and the methods involved – thankfully it is also a skill that the Emmerson Critchley team is extremely well versed in.
